Tommy (Mason Thames) is more interested in getting Analogue Dogs, the band he started with his buddies Fred (Kylr Coffman) and Chad (Ryan Foust), some recognition than attending school. He loves the band Green Day and although he doesn't score tickets to their concert when they come to his hometown, Kansas City, he goes to a signing at a record store and gives them a copy of his band's demo.
Much to his shock, when one of the members of Green Day calls a few days later and asks Analogue Dogs to open for them at their New Year's Eve show in Los Angeles, he's determined to go, even when his mom (Jenna Fischer) tells him he can't go.
He steals his big brother's taxi and the three band members take off across country, but when Fred fills up the car with diesel instead of unleaded, the taxi breaks down. They manage to push it to a county/rock 'n roll bar, where the owner (Angela Kinsey) signs them up for a contest of the bands.
Through trials and tribulations, the three teens make their way to Los Angeles on a trip they'll never forget.
